The Story Behind The Storm
On September 4, 2022, After The Storm, Incorporated was established as a non-profit organization with the office of the Georgia Secretary of State. Marsha Sanders, Founder and Chief Executive Officer saw the vision for the organization after overcoming the challenges that life continuously stormed her way.
In 1996, I encountered a life of many struggles, setbacks, and disappointments as a troubled young African American woman who grew up poor living in the housing projects in Massachusetts. I was a victim of abuse and felt like no one cared about my life or well-being. I was at a place in my life where I just wanted to give up as I felt that there was no way of escape; survival was not realized. Therefore, I continued to submerge into the crime and poverty that encompassed my environment and was, myself, homeless.
After ending up at a dead-end street and being incarcerated, I began to study the bible and believe that I could do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me. The Word of God gave me hope, and I started believing in myself and changed from negative to positive. After much time passed, I was given a vision from God. I began to write that vision down and before long I began to walk by faith and not by sight. The vision became a reality as the vision became my life.
With the blessings of God, I have helped over 450 homeless individuals to date, in the CSRA alone. To show my gratitude to God for supporting me through all the storms I have faced in life, I have dedicated my life to serving God by serving others just as Christ came to serve me .
Together with my Board of Directors, we work tirelessly to minimize the homeless population in the CSRA and, in time, the entire state of Georgia through the power of Christ which lives within each of us.
